It’s in human nature to push to be the first, the best in any field. This desire has brought many people to be innovative and creative in such ways that nobody else would have thought about it. Here are ten pointless Guinness world records in all their glory.
Most Shirts Worn at Once
This unusual record was set by a man called Jef Van Dijck- he managed to wear 227 T-shirts at once. The record was set in Brecht, Belgium, on April 24, 2008.
Melvin Booth and Lee Redmond dedicated decades to set this weird record. They stopped cutting their nails and in time, they finally achieved combined fingernails length of 9.05 meters and 8.56 meters.
Most Steps Walked Down by a Dog Facing Forwards Balancing a Glass of Water
Bet you didn’t know that not all records are held by people! An Australian Shepherd/Border Collie from the USA holds the record for most steps while facing forward and balancing a glass of water on its head. The dog took 10 steps while balancing a 141g glass of water on its head! Now that’s a good dog!
Loudest Purr by a Domestic Cat
Yet another world record set by our animal friends! Smokey- a cat from Britain has the loudest purr in the world. Its purr reaches the level of decibels as a passing Tube train, 67.7 dB. Imagine having such a loud pet- I bet it gets insane sometimes! Yikes!
The Loudest Scream
Contrarily to Smokey, this record is held by a teacher from Ireland named Annalisa Flannagan. She set the record in 1994 by screaming an astonishing 120 dB, louder than a jet engine!
Six years later, in the year 2000, another teacher from Britain- Jill Drake, broke that record by screaming at 129 decibels! Guess the word they were screaming? ‘Quiet’! Perfect for a teacher!
Having the Most World Records
The king of All Stupid Records, also known as Ashrita Furman has a total of 551 set records! Some of them are the most jumping jacks (27000), jumping on the world’s smallest pogo stick and running the fastest mile while balancing a baseball bat on his hand. What do you think will be his next crazy record?
Eating an Entire Plain
Mr. Eat-All, or better known as Michel Lotito from France, managed to eat an entire aircraft. It took him 2 years. Although Mr. Lotito ate a lot of crazy stuff such as bikes, TV sets, shopping carts, and many other uneatable objects, he died of natural causes at the age of 57.
The world’s largest nose belongs to Mehmet Ozyurek from Turkey. His nose is 8.8 cm! This record was set on a live Italian TV show, in 2010. Imagine having such a big nose. It’s so great that he’s actually proud of it!
Longest Time Spent Typing Instant Messages
In today’s world, texting is a pretty normal thing. But doing it for 96 hours straight? It sounds quite impossible. Typing for 4 straight days, a Californian man Norman Perez set the first record in this category. He only took 5-minute breaks every hour, as the rules of the Guinness Book of World Record allowed him.
Longest Time Spent Being Buried Alive
I think we all have a rational fear of being buried alive… well, maybe not all of us. A brave man set this insane record by surviving 10 straight days buried alive in a coffin underground. His name is Zdenek Zahradka and he is from the Czech Republic. He broke the last record of ‘lousy’ 4 days by staying burried for 10 days without any food, water or even a breathing pipe to stay connected with the outside world!
By being creative, brave, and a bit insane, these people managed to leave their marks in the world history. Their records might be a bit silly but still, they will always be remembered and that was the point, right? So if you have an extraordinary gift or a special talent, look it up in the Guinness Book of World Records! Maybe you’re the next one to set a unique record like these!
